Implementing the Plan

The Australian Cancer Plan (the Plan) is a 10-year reform agenda for the whole Australian cancer community. Implementation of an ambitious national framework such as this requires leadership and collaboration across the entire cancer control sector. Cancer Australia invites partners from across the sector to consider their contribution to this national reform agenda and commit to actions to assist in the delivery of the Plan's goals.

The Plan is currently undergoing measurement of progress.

About the Plan's Implementation

About implementation

The Plan was launched in November 2023 and is a 10-year national agenda to accelerate world class cancer outcomes and improve the lives of all people living in Australia affected by cancer and consists of goals and actions to be progressed over two, five and ten years. Demonstrating achievement towards the Plan’s goals in the first 2-5 years will be critical to reaching the 10-year ambitions for each of the Plan’s strategic objectives.

Implementation of the Plan is a shared responsibility requiring coordinated national action across the cancer control system, including governments, non-government organisations, and the health and research sectors.

To support the involvement of partners in implementation of the Plan, Cancer Australia is:

  • promulgating the shared vision of a national Australian Cancer Plan in practice
  • establishing partnerships with stakeholders across the sector whose implementation activities are aligned with the Plan
  • identifying and actioning shared priorities that require national approaches, in conjunction with other Government departments, including priorities that contribute to achieving the goals of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Plan
  • connecting stakeholders across the sector for the purpose of sharing knowledge and pursuing shared objectives.
